My First Crochet Project- “Flesh Bee”

Posted on 18/06/202226/06/2022 by Cheryl

This was my first crochet project and it really wasn’t the look I was going for! I’ve gotten better since this first attempt but thought it would be fun to share how I got started with it.

I was following this brilliant tutorial by Hooked by Robin (highly recommend it, especially if you’re new to crochet) and I was aiming for something that looked like this:

I ended up with this:

My result was definitely down to user error rather than the tutorial.

…but how?

I’d decided to make it using yarn I had around the house rather then buying new so I could practice, and I thought pink and grey would look cute. But the pink just ended up looking more and more like a human face, and only got worse when I added crosses on the eyes as I didn’t have any safety eyes.

By the time I got to the wings, I realised I’d made a monster, and decided to lean into it and add red veins though I’m not sure that translated.

As weird as he ended up, I’m still stupidly proud of him and he sits on my desk next to Bernard who actually turned out like the tutorial.
