(Mass Effect) Crocheting the crew of the Normandy: Commander Shepard “FemShep” Crochet pattern

Posted on 05/02/202305/02/2023 by Cheryl
Commander Shepard – FemShep

The Mass Effect crochet saga continues! This time with a Commander Shepard AKA “FemShep” crochet pattern.

Unlike my last pattern, I tried writing it down as I went and I took a couple of photos before I finished it (I’m learning!). However, it’s still not exact especially for the armour, so you may want to add/remove stitches here and there, depending on what looks right to you.

Equipment I used:

Yarn

I’ve listed what I used below but feel free to switch it up with what you prefer or have to hand:

  • Hobby Craft DK Cotton Blend 100g Yarn in each of these colours: Black, Red
  • Bonus DK 100g Yarn in Tea Rose
  • Big Value Chunky 100g Yarn in Charcoal

Other equipment:

  • 3 mm Crochet Hook the wool above recommends either 4-5mm, but for amigurumi crochet its recommended you go for a smaller hook to keep the stitches tight
  • A stitch marker I just use a hair pin
  • Darning Needle for weaving in ends
  • A sewing needle
  • Thread in charcoal, red and white
  • Toy Stuffing
  • Glue for attaching the N7 patch
  • Safety Eyes black
  • Pins for positioning pieces before attaching them

58. Attach the wig cap on to the head by weaving in the tail

Step 58- weaving in hair cap

59. For attaching the head strands, first pin them to the wig cap to work out their position (see images below for how I positioned them).

Step 59- pinning hair strands in place

60. When you’re happy with the position of the strands, weave them into the wig cap one at a time.

Body pieces (x2) – charcoal

69. Ch 10 (10)

70-72. Sc 10 (10)

73. Sc 3, dec 2, sc 3 (8)

75. Sc 1, dec 2, sc 1 (4)

76. Sc 1, dec 1, sc 1 (3)

Leave a long tail to attach to other armour pieces

77. Pin the pieces to the body to get the position right. Once you’re happy with the position, weave the tails to connect the pieces together onto the body. I’d suggest doing it in this order:

  • Attach the two body pieces in between the legs
  • Connect the neckband on both sides to the front body piece
  • Connect the two arm pieces to the two body pieces

78. Once you’ve weaved all the pieces together, if you want to connect more of the pieces together to help with the fit, weave in another piece of dark grey yarn.

Commander Shepard – Left hand side

N7 Patch- charcoal

79. Take 2 strands of dark grey yarn, and sew the two side by side using similar coloured thread. This will make the patch.

80. In around 1-2cm of the patch, use white thread to sew in the N7, and red thread to sew on the triangle shape.

81. Cut patch to size and glue onto the armour.
